Severe Weather Alert

Heavy Rainfall Expected Today Through Wednesday

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is monitoring heavy rainfall entering our area today through late Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are expected and higher amounts of 5 to 7 inches and possibly greater may occur in isolated areas.

Heavy rainfall is expected to cause rises along rivers, streams, and bayous in Harris County. Localized street flooding is the main threat but high winds are also possible.

Motorists should exercise cautions – slow down and leave additional space between you and other vehicles. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Check the Houston TranStar live traffic map for information on road conditions.

2023 Hurricane Preparedness!

With hurricane season upon us, it’s crucial for residents in hurricane-prone areas to protect themselves against potential dangers. Here are some tips to help you prepare now!

  1. Create an emergency kit: This should include essential items such as non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit.
  2. Secure your home: Protect your windows with shutters or plywood, trim trees and bushes to prevent debris from causing damage, and reinforce your roof if necessary.
  3. Have a plan in place: Determine evacuation routes, identify a safe place to stay, and make sure all family members know what to do in case of an emergency.
  4. Stay informed: Keep track of the latest weather updates, and follow the instructions of local officials and emergency responders.
  5. Review your insurance coverage: Make sure you have adequate coverage for your home and personal belongings, and know what to do in case you need to file a claim.

Remember, it’s always better to be prepared in advance than to wait until the last minute. By taking the necessary steps now, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from the potential dangers of hurricanes.
